STAFF DIRECTORY

"Stay with the best, before you're laid to rest!" - Mike Shawn a New York Times Ad
Name:  Mr. Shawn

Position: Owner and Manager

What do you do here? I manage the beautiful Shady Pines and look after our lovely residents. I pride myself in really getting to know the residents. I bond with each and everyone of them on an emotional & spiritual level. I try to inspire my young, but qualified staff (we have the paperwork to prove they are qualified, it’s just confidential).  Speaking of our staff, I started a program with the Juvenile Correctional Facility, where we take a troubled youth and attempt to rehabilitate him through forced work with elders. I’ve found kids tend to find wisdom in the wrinkles. Here at Shady Pines we do not use the term patients, although yes, we do have some crazies if you know what I mean. However, we like to refer to the elders as residents because Shady Pines is their home and my home. Seriously, this is where I grew up. It was in room 602C. My roommate was Leroy Wilson. I was forced to get the top bunk because Leroy was 89. My childhood was great and educational. I learned  a lot about World War 1 from Leroy's nightmares.

How long have you been working here? Legally? -Since I was 16. But my dad put me to work around the age of seven. While the other kids played outside, I changed the bed sheets. My first word was bingo. My second word, death.

What do you love most about working here? The smell of old people, I think it's top five in my list of good smells, right behind gasoline, and burning hair.

Fun Fact: I run an online boutique for hand-crafted dolphin items ranging from knit sweaters to telephone receivers. I'm also learning to speak dolphin, currently on level 3 Rosetta Stone. And I aspire to one day create my own dolphin cove.

Name: Pauline Newboot

Position: Nurse Assistant (almost a registered nurse)

What do you do here? You know, stuff. I push residents' wheel chairs, I run a book club on Thursdays, we're currently tackling 50 Shades of Grey. Occasionally, I break up fights, typical nursing home duties.

How long have you been working here? 1097 wonderful days. And i've gotten employee of the month twice!

What do you love most about working here? The fact that this is a great stepping stone to becoming a physician. By now I can spot genital herpes from miles away. And I love the boloney hot pockets.

Fun Fact: Survived the swine flu outbreak in 2010. I was never infected or knew anyone who was. It was this event that inspired me to go to medical school and train to be a doctor.

Name:  Nicky Thermopolis

Position: Activity Coordinator 1st, Nurse 2nd.

What do you do here? What don't I do here? As the activity coordinator, I not only plan field trips, group activities, themed parties & funerals, but I also lead most of the groups as well. I teach an intense hip-hop Zumba class which focuses on moving to hard-core rap songs from the 90s on Mondays. Tuesdays, it's field trip time, last week we went to the parking lot of a minor league baseball stadium. The week before we went rock climbing. Wednesdays, focuses primarily on the arts. Sometimes I'll stand in as a model and have the residents use charcoal rocks from the fire pit to sketch my features on cardboard. Thursdays, I plan educational but topical lessons. Last Thursdays was on: Why Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez need to stay together for my own sanity. That lesson got really positive reviews in the suggestion box. Fridays are my favorite day of the week. Every Friday I write, direct, and star in an original play. The residents enjoy watching me perform. I know it.

How long have you been working here? Everyday feels like the first. I love it here.

What do you love most about working here? I feel like I can creatively express myself and provide smiles.

Fun Fact: Lives life by the three F's - "Flawless, Fierce, and Fabulous"

Name: Glennis Fro'Man

Position: Front desk receptionist and secretary. / Keeper of secrets

What do you do here? I'm Mr. Shawn's eyes and ears, and nose. If the phone ever rang, I believe it's my job to pick it up.

How long have you been working here? Not sure. I go by the Mayan Calendar but that ended in 2012.

What do you love most about working here? Watching the baby mice grow into adult mice who now have their own children. It's amazing to see life prosper in a place with so much death.

Fun Fact: I've been fired from Shady Pines 84 times!

Name:  Chad

Position: Juvie Volunteer

What do you do here? First off, I'm not a volunteer, I'm ordered here by the court. I've avoided doing any real work here. Oh, I recently started selling weed to some of the old people. Good gig. But seriously, this place is a mad house. Mr. Shawn steals the patients' money and is letting this place fall apart. He hired absolute morons to run this place. And I'm pretty sure he pays off the Health Department inspector.

How long have you been working here? 44 hours out of the 200 I need.

What do you love most about working here? Literally nothing. Would prefer Juvie.

Fun Fact: Amateur pick-pocketer.

Name: Kayla Rivers

Position: Co-Manager

What do you do here? Technically, I don't work at Shady Pines. I work for the Department of Health and Human Services. But when I saw the condition of this facility, I knew it was my duty to serve the residents here. I intend on spending millions of dollars to make Shady Pines a state of the art nursing residency. The residents at Shady Pines are amazing, young hearted people, who deserve only the best. I'm talking about gutting the entire place, implementing new practices, the whole deal. (Note: Mr. Shawn has yet to approve of the amount of money that will go into this project)

How long have you been working here? One day, but I plan on staying until this place is the best nursing home in the US.

Fun Fact: Coincidentally, I've only dated boys named Sherman. Also, and very unfortunate for me, but my Father Alvin is a resident at Shady Pines.
